Jinotega, Nicaragua-
The first round of cupping by the international jury has come to a close. Of the 59 coffees that passed the national jury 29 have scored above 84 points by the international jury and are cup of excellence coffees. Tomorrow we cup all 29 nine in four flights of seven and rank them in order. The top ten of those are cupped again on Friday to place them. Today we had one coffee that was absolutely amazing berries and cream on the aroma and flavors cane sugar, jasmine, and lemon tea. It scored above 90 by about half of the jury with some breaking into the 95 and above scoring bracket for the first time this competition.

Nicaragua Day One

First dispatch from Nicaragua, today was calibration. We did severals flights of coffees and talked about them. Tomorrow we start the real thing. I'm looking forward to tasting some awesome coffees over the next couple days. Not that it's the relax and enjoy the coffee type of atmosphere. We have to score and place 59 coffees over the next couple of days. It pales in comparison to the 523 coffees the national jury had to cup over the last five days. I will keep everyone posted on the details from Nicaragua.
