Roasters Speakeasy

Well the folks at Roast magazine held a little get together last night in Portland. The idea is to get like minded folks together to share experience and coffee knowledge, at least that was my take. Folks from all over the Northwest made their way to the Lucky Labrador brew pub, and conversation and camaraderie was had by all.

Roasters and representatives, from The Stumptown, Tony's, Blue Gardenia, CBI, Bj's Coffee, Rayjen, Optco, and a host of others were in attendance.

We had the opportunity to listen to Tim Schilling, who represents the Rwandan Pearl project. This projects focus is to bring Rwandan coffee to the forefront, as an emerging origin. The work being done in Rwanda is exceptional in the case that they are now growing coffee that the region is capable of. The farmers are getting more money for the crops and the consumer gets incredible coffee. The coffee we have cupped from this region have been excellent, so keep your eyes on our site for more news from Rwanda.

What is really cool about these types of gatherings is that these folks are all dedicated to quality coffee. It is a tremendous feeling to hang out with these folks at to know that we all share a common goal.

The highlight of the evening was an invitation from Duane of the Stumptown Coffee Roasters, to visit the Annex and check out some film from his last visit to Guatemala. Not only did we get to see some great footage, but Duane and staff, set up a late night cupping table that included Panama Esmeralda Especial, as well as some other stellar coffees. Thanks Duane!

Other than that it was just your typical Thursday night out in the great Northwest ;-)

Thanks to all that participated, and great big thanks to Roast Magazine for putting it all together.
